Our U11.5 Hurling team captained by Lorcan Kelly were in action last
night (14th June 2018) in Presentation College, Askea in Round #6 of the U11.5 Hurling
Division 2. The boys came away with a win; but St Mullins didn’t make it
easy and it could have gone either way.
Setanta started off
early in the match with a fine point from play from Shane McCarthy;
followed by an excellent goal from U10 Shane Guhry who incidentally put
in an overall fine display. Shane McCarthy scored a second point from
play and this was followed by a fine effort from the hurl of Ray
McNamara. The half time score was Setanta 1-4; St. Mullins 1-3.
In the second half, Shane McCarthy scored four well taken frees and one
"65". But, the boys couldn't get away from St. Mullins who rallied and
scored a point (from a free) and an excellent goal. Setanta led by a
solitary point coming into the last few minutes of the second half and
only for a couple of missed opportunities from St. Mullins; trojan
defending from Ronan Sullivan at full back and last but not least an
excellent save from Joe Bermingham the final result may have been
different.
Setanta next play Carlow Town Hurling Club on Saturday 30th June.
