Setanta Hurling U-12 boys and girls sensationally took the next step of
the ladder in the elevation of our great Club when they overcame the
massive challenge of Naomh Eoin (Myshall) in the Carlow U-12 Hurling
Championship (Division 2) match played at Presentation College, Askea.
Setanta put down a marker to Myshall and started off strongly at
blistering pace. A number of quick balls were delivered by Conor Treacy
and Sinead Thompson into the full-forward line where goalkeeper come
full-forward David Bolger had to quickly adapt to his new position; but
in doing so thankfully found the Myshall net twice in the first ten
minutes. Conor Treacy converted two frees during the course of the first
half while Myshall scored four frees throughout the same period making
the scoreline Setanta 2-2; Myshall 0-4 at half-time.
Setanta and
Myshall were rallied by their respective mentors at half-time after
which Myshall arguably started the stronger scoring 1-1 in the first ten
minutes. Setanta defended like there was no tomorrow and battened down
the hatches with fine displays from full-forward come goalkeeper Joe
Bermingham between the sticks; Dylan McGrath (direct from Gaultier Cul
Camp in the Deise) at full-back and David Jacob at half-back. Setanta
thankfully came again; a point from a free from the hurl of Conor
Treacy followed by a terrific goal made by Marc Mulhall and finished by
Sinead Murphy.
As the full-time whistle sounded from match
referee Seamie Doyle, there were roars and shouts for joy from the
Setanta contingent which could be heard as far away as Tinryland.
Setanta now lie in wait for our next match scheduled for Sat 12th August vs Mt. Leinster Rangers at Presentation College.
